The Day We Became A Family

This is something I haven’t really talked much about on the blog because I didn’t know if it was “appropriate”. I was afraid someone would be mad that I was sharing this part of our life. However, this summer one of the biggest moments of our life took place and with it being National Adoption Month, I wanted to share our story. Although our adoption story isn’t like the “traditional” stories, it’s OURS and I wanted to share it.

I wrote a post awhile back called The Dad He Didn’t Have To Be. All of that post is still true to this day, except one major thing has changed since writing that post. M officially became a dad, on paper, as of July 16th, 2015. Baby girl was adopted and it was one of the best days of my entire life. We have always been a family. Since day one, we’ve been a family. Something about having it “official on paper” was life changing. All three of us now share the same last name. How exciting is that?!

It’s a big step to decide to adopt someones child. You are stepping up and taking on all responsibility for that child, NO MATTER WHAT. M told me that he never second guessed his decision. I know God brought him into our life to not only be my husband, but to be the fully devoted and present father baby girl deserves.

I missed out on a lot of things having a baby at 19. One of those things were newborn pictures. Everyone these days has the cutest pictures of their new baby cub in adorable poses and cheesy outfits. With big changes happening in our family, such as baby girl getting officially adopted, we wanted to do something special to commemorate the occasion. So, we staged a newborn photo shoot. With a five year old. HAHA! I may not have gotten these pictures when she was little, but we have them now that we’re a family of three. Yes, this is meant to be silly. But we also got some amazing family shots out of it and we love them SO much!

We have loved this process, we have loved the changes, and we loved doing this shoot.

All About Essential Oils!

I have such a fun post for you guys today and I can’t wait to share it! I’ve been interested in essential oils for i’d say a little over a year now and I truly love learning about their amazing uses. My friend Jessica is here to guest post today and I am so happy to introduce you all to her! The following post is from her, enjoy!

You might have recently seen posts about people using essential oils in various ways,
or maybe even know someone who has been using them.
I started using Young Living oils a few months ago and have had quite a few people ask for more information about what essential oils are and how they can use them in their daily lives. GREAT QUESTION!

First, just a little background about myself so you understand where I am coming from and then we will jump right into the fun stuff. I am a graduate student in a Doctor of Physical Therapy program pursuing a career to make an impact on the health and wellness in the lives of others. I am really passionate about treating our bodies with clean eating, vigorous and empowering workouts, and toxic free substances. When we treat our bodies with love and respect we feel better physically, emotionally, and cognitively. Essential oils have made a huge impact in my life. They’ve helped my fiancé and I with immunity support when we are feeling sick, substituted our cleaning and beauty products that are full of toxins, enhanced our quality of sleep, and have supported our emotional well being!
“HOW?!” you might ask! Well you are in luck because I am going to start with the basics and build from there!

What the heck is an essential oil?
An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid (hydrophobic molecules can permeate through your skin and cells easily) containing aroma compounds from a plant—roots, seeds, bark, etc. This specific compound provides vital support and structure to ensure the success and health of its raw plant material. Through a precise steam distillation process and/or cold pressing, the purest essential oils formed are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they were extracted. Although they are recently starting to gain worldwide recognition, their uses are far from new. History tracks back to the use of botanicals as healing agents as early as at least 5,000 years ago!

Why Young Living?
After doing hours of research across the many essential oil companies I was easily sold with Young Living.

*By far have been around the longest, since 1993 and created by a DOCTOR
*Seed to Seal promise!! (Which means that they own and oversee all of the farms for organic crops. No middle man. No tricks up their sleeves. Just the way I like it!
*They only create 100% therapeutic grade oils which is the highest and purest form. After using them for a few months I can tell a HUGE difference in quality compared to other companies.

How to use them!?

How to get started with essential oils!?
When I first started looking on how to dive into using oils, I felt overwhelmed with how many different varieties there were. A close friend of mine recommended starting with the premium start kit and it was the BEST. DECISION. EVER! It came with the 11 most popular oils, a stress away roller bottle, sample oils, travel bottles, Ningxia to-go energy drinks AND a diffuser of my choice. This kit has been life changing for my fiancé and I and I plan to incorporate YL oils in my day to day for the rest of my life.
Even better, when I signed up with the starter kit I automatically got WHOLESALE price for life. No catch. They are just that awesome!

If you are interested in getting started with your own kit you can follow the link below. Make sure to choose the WHOLESALE account to receive that discount for life. They also take some personal info from you in case you ever decide to share young living with others…. because we know your friends will want to dive in to oils too!
 (You get a $$ bonus!!)

If you are interested in getting a kit AND becoming a distributor and sharing the powerful benefits of oils with others while making extra money from home…Email me!

Vacations I Want To Take

After another fun and eventful Monday in corporate America, I thought what better way to sulk in my misery than to list a few of the vacations I want to take.
(Because let’s be honest, if I listed them all, we’d be here all day. And no one wants that.)

I truly love traveling. It might be one of my favorite things to do. However, my bank account does not agree. And lately, neither does my five year old because she’s “offended” that we DARE not invite her to places.
But that’s a whole other story for another day…

In no particular order, I present to you some of the vacations I’d LOVE to take some day. And if i’m lucky, my ridiculously handsome husband will pick up on this and surprise me in 294 years when we can afford a lavish vacation. 😉

Napa Valley
Something about Napa Valley really appeals to me. Like really really appeals to me. The wine lover in me wants to be overlooking the gorgeous vineyards, sipping on wine, and forgetting that I actually live the life of a peasant. I mean really, who wouldn’t want that?! I’ve seen the pictures, and yes, every single one makes me jealous. It’s cool. Keep on sipping your wine with your floppy hats, i’ll just be sitting here wishing I was you.
Some day i’ll go there. Who wants to join?!

Bora Bora
If this ISN’T on your dream vacations list, who are you?!?! Have you not seen the over water bungalows? They are perfection. I want to be able to jump off my private porch into the crystal clear ocean, see that same ocean from inside my bungalow, and bask in the amazingness that is FSBoraBora. (That’s Four Seasons. I like to know what i’m talking about.) Shelby, hook it up, would ya?!

New York City
Yes, this is a place I haven’t been. I know, I know…it hurts my heart, too. There shouldn’t be much explanation as to why this place is on my list. I mean it’s NEW YORK CITY!

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
If you follow us AT ALL, you know that we love Mexico and we go quite often. However, Cabo is one place we haven’t been. I want to go there and experience the whole “deep sea fishing” nonsense that is hyped up about that place. If that doesn’t scream a good time, I don’t know what does. Oh and i’d also love to go on a catamaran ride! (Is that what those boats are called?!) We did Cancun on our honeymoon and now it’s time to cross Cabo off the list!

A Cruise
I’ve wanted to do a cruise for some time now. We are going on one in January and this will be our first one so any advice is greatly appreciated! 🙂

Of course my vacation list is a mile long, but this is just a glimpse into a few of the ones I am dying to take!
What are your favorite vacations you’ve ever taken? What’s your DREAM vacation?! Hope you all had a great Monday and you have a fabulous week!
