First attempt at Homemade Almond Milk!

M and I have been wanting to try homemade almond milk for some time now. Its not difficult, by any means. We just never found the time to get around to it. I think our first attempt was pretty successful! This is literally the easiest recipe ever. And it is FAR cheaper than buying the stuff at the store! I became allergic to dairy after I got pregnant and it has been the most challenging thing for me to overcome. Lets be honest, I’m TERRIBLE at cutting dairy out. This almond milk was really tasty though and i’m excited to keep trying new things!
Step 1. Soak almonds overnight up to 48 hours.

Step 2. Rinse almonds and place in a blender. Add 4 cups of water per 1 cup of dry almonds soaked overnight. We added 2 tsp vanilla, and 2 tsp agave nectar but each of these can be played around with for taste. Let the blender go for two minutes.

Step 3. You will need a strainer and a cheese cloth. Place a strainer over a bowl, then the cheese cloth over the strainer. This part was a little tricky for us seeing as we never have done it before, but we managed! We ended up straining it twice because the first time was still a little gritty.
Step 4. Place in container, and enjoy! How simple is that?!?!

Have you ever made homemade almond milk before?!
What is your favorite way to make it?

It truly is a miracle!

Who doesn’t love product reviews?! If you answered “me”, you are welcome to exit now. 😉
If you have ever been searching for a hair miracle, look no further! Ladies, I’M SERIOUS! Aussie 3 Minute Miracle is the best hair product ever. And who doesn’t love that it says “MOIST” across the bottle?! (I kid, i kid)

As someone who wears their hair up 99.539% of the time due to work, I NEED this stuff. My hair ends up so ratty and straight up NASTY after a few days. This purple bottle is my holy grail of hair products. I have purchased this a few times and all but one time I was beyond impressed. The last bottle I bought smelt like a bad port-o-potty. I couldn’t even finish the bottle. It NORMALLY smells like coconut and deliciousness. Thank goodness! When using this product, I normally put it in my hair and let it do its thang while I shave my legs. The only thing I dislike about the product? There’s no cap at the bottom of the bottle. Although you have to squeeze rather hard to get the product out, I still don’t like that its just open at the end. I find that odd. Otherwise, this product is literally the best thing i’ve ever tried on my hair! If you’ve never tried this, run to your nearest store and get some!

Do you have any holy grail hair products?
Have you ever tried this before? What were your thoughts?!

“If I see anyone here I know, I’m going to die!”

The famous line I would always say to my mother when she dragged me into thrift stores….”If I see anyone here I know, I’m going to die!” Was I being a BIT of a dramatic 13 year old? Probably. But my mom would always counter my statement with “If they see you here, it’s because THEY ARE HERE TOO!” ….Touché mom, TOUCHÉ.

It’s funny looking back on times like that because I LOVE thrifting now. I literally get a rush from going to thrift stores and seeing what good deals I can find. It’s always a “win some, lose some” situation, but nonetheless it’s always fun! I’m glad that at a young age, in a world where everyone is in constant competition to look the best, I have appreciated the art of thrifting. Yes, I said ART, people! I truly believe I had one of the best hauls i’ve had this past week. Top 5 FOR SURE. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look fabulous. I by no means have a great sense of fashion but I do like looking put together.

I found this cute swimsuit top. Although it MIGHT be a maternity top, i’m totally in love. I’ve wanted something a little more “conservative” for summer time and this was the perfect pick. It is a darker charcoal color and I figured with a bright colored bottom, this would look awesome!
Paid: $3.99 Brand: Old Navy

Who doesn’t love bright colored shirts?! I was drawn to this beauty for obvious reasons! I love the lace detail around the top and the shirt is beyond long! I LOVE long shirts! This material is so lightweight which is an added bonus.
Paid: $4.99 Brand: H&M

My next blouse is just too adorable. Not much to it, but I loved the simplicity of it. I quickly learned, when looking for a retail price, “BLAIR” might OR MIGHT NOT BE an “old lady brand”. THIS SHIRT IS STILL CUTE, OKAY?! (Hashtag don’t judge me.)
Paid: $4.99 Brand: Blair

Comfortable clothes are at the top of my list. I hate being in regular clothes any longer than I have to. I landed a SUPER comfy workout type jacket. “Activewear” they call it. HA! It should be called “Lounge around the house wear”.
Paid: $3.99 Brand: Lucy

Sweater season is fast approaching, is it not?! Well, if you live anywhere but the land of heat that I am from. Regardless, I love sweaters and couldn’t resist this one!
Paid: $5.99 Brand: Sonoma Life & Style (Sold @ Kohls)

These next two dresses were probably two of my favorite finds in the history of finds! This blue dress is just to die for! All lace, stylish, fits me?! Perfection. The “country vibe” of this really screamed at me and I just couldn’t pass it up.
Paid: $9.99 Brand: MERONA

This dress is a little….”out there”. Let’s be honest, I think it’s what i’m most excited about! Bright colors, crazy patterns, perfect in every way! It fit like a glove and I loved the classiness of it. And people….it has POCKETS! P-O-C-K-E-T-S. If you don’t love pocket dresses, you must not love puppies. Or ice cream. Or all things wonderful! Okay kidding, but seriously. I’m in LOVE.
Paid: $9.99 Brand: Emma and Michele

Do you thrift store shop?
What have been your best finds?!

Social Sunday!

I love links up and finding other bloggers I can relate to! Here are this weeks questions!

1. What was your favorite trip/vacation/activity this summer?
Our Mexico trip was my favorite, by far. I loved sitting on the beach, staying up late listening to the ocean, and oh ya, getting engaged! It was a vacation I will never forget!
2. What was your favorite outfit look/clothing item of the summer?
Well if we’re being honest, I have worked 98% of my summer. Yay for being an adult! And when i wasn’t at work this summer, I was in big t-shirts and sweatpants. Attractive, right?! However, these were a few of my “favorites” this summer.

(Maxi dress and ‘Love’ sparkle tank were both thrifted)
3. What is one thing you wish you’d gotten to do this summer?
My dad came home from Afghanistan and I really wished I was there for his coming home ceremony but it just didn’t work out. Other than that, I think my summer was awesome.

4.  What was your favorite song of the summer? “We can’t stop” by Miley Cyrus. #judgeme

5. What was your favorite movie/tv show of the summer? Well I don’t have a TV, so netflix is my best friend when I decide to watch anything. This summer I watched Pretty Little Liars and I was hooked.

Happy Hump Day, everyone! If you live under a rock and haven’t seen this video yet, go do it now. You can thank me later.

Okay now that we are all in a good mood because of our friend the camel, lets talk about my photo dump for the day! I figured this was a fun way for you, the amazing people who read my blog, to see the pictures i’ve taken for the week! (Plus or minus the 29582 selfies I take)
If you want to follow along, check back every wednesday! Trust me, you’ll want to stay. 😉

1. I’ve really tried to watch what i’ve been eating lately due to the fact that I WILL NOT fit into my wedding dress if I don’t start. I don’t mean that negatively, i’m just stating facts. And lets be honest, this Lean Cuisine was DELICIOUS. I was actually surprised!

2. You know what I love about our relationship? Knowing we are having all of our “last first times” with each other! Sunday was one of those days for us and we were REALLY excited about what we did! That exciting news will be put into another post once everything plays out. (Don’t cha want to REALLY stick around now?!)

3. The other night we sat on my back patio, grilled, and watched the storm roll in! Oh and enjoyed an adult beverage. I know you can’t tell from the picture, but the sky was beyond dark. Fun fact? Rainy, stormy, cold weather is my FAVORITE kind of weather.

4. Sometimes at work, we get broken pie shells. #pastrychefproblems

Do you have any diet plans you stick to or “healthy” meals you like?
What is your favorite kind of weather?

I hope you liked this “dump day” and I hope you have a good HUMP DAY!

Sometimes we’re really cute

I think my favorite part about “wedding planning” was taking our ‘Save the Date’ pictures! It truly reminded me how much I just LOVE M. We can be silly, and serious, and just be….in love! I kept looking at him and saying “I have no idea what i’m doing” and we would just laugh. I love that about him. I love that I don’t have to pretend to know what i’m doing, or pretend like i’m good at things.
I was so excited to finally meet our photographer, who happens to be his cousin. Along with excited, I was a tad nervous. When he told me he “knew someone who took pictures” I was expecting someone who just owned a camera and took pictures for fun. Luckily, our photographer is AMAZING! She gave us direction and made us feel comfortable, which I loved and ultimately needed. This photo shoot reassured me that the photos of our wedding will be BEAUTIFUL!
I am so in love with these pictures!

(Remember this whole ‘I don’t know what i’m doing’ thing?!)

Sometimes we’re really cute. Wouldn’t you agree?! 😉

Oh ya, I have a wedding to plan!

While i’ve been stalking pinterest religiously planning my wedding, i’ve had so many ideas coming and going through my head!
The wedding planning process has gone a little something like this…

As soon as I got engaged I went out and bought every wedding magazine in site. Soon after, I bought a strawberry shake from Sonic and proceeded to lounge by my pool and day dream about thousand dollar weddings I cant afford. Hey, a girl can dream!
Also, I did a very “bride” thing and ran to the nearest bridal show I could find. Who doesn’t love going to look at 509390 different cakes, caterers, floral arrangements, so forth and so on?!

While at this bridal show I came across one venue that I knew my fiancé would LOVE. I myself was set on a different one (from pictures), but I knew he would love this one. I went and looked at the one I loved and although it was beautiful, I felt like the other place might be it. We went and toured the venue I knew M would like and I was right, he loved it. (1 POINT BRIDE) We called the next day to tell the events coordinator we loved it and wanted to book. Soon following, we signed our lives away. 😉

I’ve spent countless hours on Pinterest trying to find things I love. I’ve even attempted a few DIY projects. Lets just say i’m NOT the crafty one out of the group, but hey, i’m trying!

We also had our “Save the Date” photos done and I could not have been more happy with the way they turned out! I had so much fun shooting them and it just reassures me that I am truly marrying my best friend!
Wedding planning has been an adventure for me so far. Its a lot different than just pinning things I like on pinterest. Can you believe this stuff actually costs MONEY?! Okay, kidding, but still. Its been a lot of fun so far! We still have a LOT of things to figure out, but for right now, I feel as if i’m staying on track!
6 more months until this handsome man gets to be my husband!

Our Engagement Story

When M and I had first met, I kept thinking to myself “what if these are all my last ‘firsts’?” Last first date, last first kiss, last first time meeting someones parents. Something about him made me truly believe I had found ‘the one’. I will never forget our first date. He had told me “i’m looking to settle down”. That took me by surprise. Even if guys think that, they usually don’t express their thoughts about it.

4 months after dating, we took a trip to Mexico. I knew from the beginning that Mexico was a special place for M. He has so many memories there and I knew he was beyond excited to take me there. We were only going for a weekend, but I knew it was going to be a fun one. I had never been out of the country before and I was excited to experience this with him.

People always ask if I knew he was going to propose. And the story goes a little something like this….
M had somewhat dropped hints that he was going to ask but by the time we got there, I was completely surprised. I kept trying to force it out of him and he did give me this “bring sneakers, we might be going hiking on saturday.” I figured if anything was going to happen, it was going to be saturday afternoon if we took a hike.
Saturday morning we all headed out to the beach. We laid out, played in the ocean, and ate delicious burritos from the burrito lady on the beach! Once we decided we were going to head back to the house, I asked what the plan was for the rest of the day. You know, because we were going on an awesome hike or something, right?! I was wrong. So wrong. His response? “Probably just head back to the house, shower up, go grab dinner, and go to the Roger Clyne concert.” Uh, thats it?! It was completely out of my head at this point that anything was going to happen. I figured if anything was going to happen, the girls I was with would have made sure I looked more decent then I did, but they didn’t. We had walked out of the house to head to dinner, only to realize we had locked the keys in the house. Yes, in mexico, keys locked inside. After about thirty mins of the boys trying to get them out, they finally reached them and we were on our way.
We arrive at the place we wanted to have dinner and much to our disappointment, they were closed due to a wedding they were having. So lets back track…keys locked in house? Check. Place we wanted to have dinner closed? Check. Little did I know, this was the restaurant M wanted to propose at. You can see the night was clearly going in his favor!
We ended up going to a beautiful restaurant that was over the ocean. The sun was setting, we were with great friends, and i’m pretty sure 4-5 out of 9 of us had chicken fingers for dinner. When we finished we ended up walking up through the little fish market area to these statues. It was a cool place that overlooked the ocean and as I stated earlier, the sun was setting. Makes for a pretty romantic setting, eh?!
Next thing I hear “oh there is one more thing I wanted to do….”

I honestly don’t even remember what he was saying when he was down on one knee. And for the record, I wasn’t running away. I honestly felt like I was going to pass out and I needed to move my legs or else that would have happened. HAHA!

The rest of the night was spent with some of our close friends and I loved every single second of it! I couldn’t have imagined it any better way. I went to Mexico with a boyfriend and left with a fiancé!! The fact that I get to marry my very best friend is the absolute greatest feeling in the world. I’m excited for this adventure and to see where our life is headed.

Stay tuned for more posts about our wedding planning process and making our life wonderful!

You can’t meet your husband in a bar!

I figured I would start this blog off with stories of “us”. A lot of people ask how we met/how we got engaged. Well lucky for you folks, i’m going to tell you!

My mom always told me “you can’t find your future husband in a bar!”
So from the time I met M, I told people “we met at an Uncle Kracker concert!” In theory, this is true. The catch? The concert was at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill. I still laugh when I think about my mom saying I wouldn’t find him in a bar.

Rewind a few months back to February 2013. My daughter was spending a weekend with her dad and I knew I wanted to have a fun weekend. I texted my friend Erica to see if she was free because I hadn’t seen her in awhile and we ALWAYS have fun together. Needless to say, I ended up driving down to the valley to see her. Erica and I knew we wanted to go to the country bar (Toby Keith’s) just to go dancing, we had no clue there was even a concert going on until the night before. Friday night we had gone out and met someone who was going to be at Toby’s (for the concert) and said we should all meet up and say hi once we got there. Saturday night rolls around and Erica and I head to the concert. Our friend we had met the night before was friends with M and shortly introduced us to each other. I found it odd that this boy (M) was actually having intellectual conversations with me. Fast forward to the end of the night when he is signing for his credit card. Fun fact for you? I’m left handed. When M signed his receipt, he also was left handed! I rarely meet left handed people and I told him “you’re left handed?! we should be best friends!!!”

(The first night we met)

He had taken my number that night and I knew I would never be hearing from him again. That’s just how it works, isn’t it? I mean come on, you can’t meet decent guys at the bar, RIGHT MOM?! 😉
A few days later, he ended up texting me! I’m 97.6% positive the first text had something to do with a sandwich. MUCH to my shock, M had asked if he could take me out to dinner one night. Seeing as we lived almost 3 hours away from each other, I did not think it would happen. Why would he put the effort in to a girl he met once? Nonetheless, he drove up the next weekend and took me out to dinner. I will never forget how nervous I was for that date. We ended up having a really amazing dinner and then drove out to a local lake nearby. This night was one for the books. That night, we saw the biggest, most amazing meteor blasting through the atmosphere. Honestly I will never see anything as amazing as that in my entire life. We always joked that it must be a good sign to have seen that on our first date.

The next monday (or tuesday) at work I had gotten the most amazingly beautiful flowers I have ever seen. A dozen and a half white, pink tipped roses and tiger lilies. The card read “for my new best friend.” I know what you’re thinking, adorable! It is rather adorable, huh?! I guess we can say at this point the first date went well. 😉

M and I dated for about a month before we were FBO. (Facebook Official for those of you who don’t know.) Side note: I just really like saying ‘FBO’ because I had NO CLUE what it meant until my friend Shelby had to explain it to me. *Dork alert* We dated long distance for roughly 3 months or so before we both knew the best decision for us was for me to move to the valley.

And this is where our story truly starts! But that’s all for another blog post. 😉

I hope you all stay tuned to hear about our crazy and exciting life together! Please feel free to leave comments or email me at any point!
Have a great day!!
